These ideals and objectives have been the heart of Sigma Chi since its founding by seven men at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, on June 28,1855. These seven men believed that true brotherhood would flourish among men of different temperaments, talents and convictions. Our guiding principles continue to define the essence of our chapter.Iota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.comBlogger37125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-38261043888380878532010-02-18T13:12:00.001-05:002010-02-18T13:13:15.961-05:00Letterman Event

Iota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-4523751390546723682010-02-01T11:19:00.003-05:002010-02-01T11:24:34.725-05:00Upcoming Recruitment Events

<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Meet The Fraternities
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Monday February 1st 8pm-11pm; Located in the Student Center Lobby
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Typically, we will show a recruitment video, a Power-point presentation, as well as, a chance to meet some of our brothers face-to-face.
Just wanted to let you know I'm taking part in the 2010 Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, February 27, 2010. As many of you know, funds raised through the Polar Bear Plunge help to advance the goal of Special Olympics New Jersey, to provide free year-round training and competition in 24 Olympic-type sports to more than 18,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Having worked at the Special Olympics Summer Games in the past I've gotten to see firsthand the joy on the faces of the athletes who participate in the various events. Seeing those smiling faces makes it easy to make the dive into the frigid waters of the Atlantic, but that's only part of it, and why I need your help.

You can make an online donation of any amount by visiting my personal donation page and helping me reach my fund-raising goal; http://bit.ly/dx5pUp.

Many companies will also do a matching donation for funds contributed to Special Olympics so your donation can have an even greater impact.
We're also looking for folks who may want to take the plunge themselves (with a bar crawl afterward). If you're interested in participating, go to the link below and click on "Plunger Registration". When prompted, indicate you want to join a team and choose team "Sofa Kings". Either way I appreciate your support.

I chose to pledge Sigma Chi because I felt connected to its members.

I am confident that I can help the Brotherhood achieve its goals and realize its intentions, and in doing so, it will be beneficial to myself and the organization as a whole.Iota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-88324736556735647402009-12-03T12:16:00.004-05:002009-12-03T18:26:16.880-05:00Enter 2010@Lugano eTourism ConferenceBrothers—

I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving break, and I appreciate the brothers that volunteered at the NY/NJ Alumni philanthropy event at the Monmouth Foodbank.

The other day I talked to our Brother Greg Byrnes, currently residing in Switzerland, and he informed me of an exciting event that he is coordinating in Lugano, Switerland.

Lugano is described on the web page for the event (enter2010.org)

Lugano is located in the Southern – Italian speaking part of Switzerland, in the Canton Ticino, that has always been a bridge between the Mediterranean and the Northern part of Europe.

The town, lies on the marvelous Lake of Lugano, surrounded by spectacular mountains offering splendid viewpoints. The traffic-free historic town centre, the numerous buildings in Italianate Lombardy style, the exclusive museums, the mountains, lake and a packed calendar of events all invite visitors to see the sights, soak up the atmosphere – and enjoy “dolce far niente”. Moreover, Lugano is a major Swiss center for tourism, trade, banking and culture.

With Mediterranean elegance, Lugano offers all the benefits of a world-class city, combined with the cachet of a small town.

The event, entitled: The 17th International Conference on Information Technology and Travel & Tourism, will be taking place February 10 – 12, 2010, should prove to be an exciting conference; guest speaker’s include, among others, agents representing Google and Expedia.com.

Again, on their website, (http://www.enter2010.org/); they even provide an easy method for booking flights. The itinerary should prove to be an excellent networking opportunity for anyone looking to advance his or her career within the tourism industry.

I have seen most of you guys, and it seems that all is well so far. I want to let you guys in on a few things so far this semester that I have been informed.

First, our alumni and last chapter adviser, Nick Buteas, is now back in the area, and is anxious to help out with any Sigma Chi activities. He also is working for the Chris Christie campaign and asked if any brothers would help him out this Saturday September 12th in Parsippany with the campaign. He says any help would be greatly appreciated. If any one is interested, please send me an email.

Next, we have our first chapter meeting this Sunday the 13th at 8 p.m. in the Mansion.

I look forward to our first meeting, and remember to dress appropriately for the meeting.Iota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-25000390382312408662009-06-27T15:27:00.004-04:002009-09-09T18:45:00.247-04:00A Message From Our Praetor<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Bml1YtuXkl4/SkZzS35YTBI/AAAAAAAAADw/yyDqOX0S3lw/s320/n789826517_1368820_96.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352091975255870482" />Please join me in congratulating John Vitale, Chapter Advisor at Iota Kappa at FDU. John will be assisted by Josh Sims as assistant Chapter Advisor. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dan Hassan and Nick Buteas for their extensive support over the years as joint advisors. Their generosity with their time and support has been incredible! They have agreed to continue to assist John and Josh when needed.

The chapter consul Jeremy Eckles and his executive will be attending BLTW to learn the “nuts and bolts” to ensure an excellent rush in the fall. John will also attend the Chapter Advisor training at BLTW.
Haight, the Executive Vice President of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation personally thanking our chapter, Iota Kappa, for our donation of $500.00 that we raised over the course of my tenure as Quaestor of the chapter. The donations rose from our benefit concert as well as contributions from Brother Bill Sapoch and the hard work of our brothers. The conclusion of the letter reads:

"Now more then ever Huntsman Cancer Institute needs your help with the support of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. The efforts of Sigma Chi are making a difference. Your donation of $500.00 adds to that pool of Brother Helping Brother. By working together we will succeed. We look forward to working together in the future to bringing additional hope to all those who suffer from cancer."

Whenever someone asks you what Sigma Chi and Iota Kappa are all about, look no further then the work we have done to help the Huntsman Cancer Institute and our brothers across the nation that need our help.

As my graduating class goes from active to alumni status, I am proud of what we have accomplished in our careers in Sigma Chi and I have nothing but the utmost faith in the new Executive Board and current active brothers. As for fraternity stuff, we discussed at some of our last chapter meetings, that our chapter will vote on a new adviser, but for Dan and Nick to still be there to help out if the advisers had a question. It was necessary to vote on a new chapter adviser and the nominations were for John Vitale and Josh Sims. I had e board conduct a vote because we are only allowed to have one name on formal sheets from headquarters for who our adviser is. John Vitale, you are our new adviser, and Josh will act as the assistant, which is very similar to what Dan and Nick did. So, this is for formal purposes on sheets that will be handed into headquarters, but John Vitale and Josh Sims will both act as our advisers within our Iota Kappa chapter. Have a great summer, and if anyone has a question, don't hesitate to call.

IH,
Jeremy
J-StylesIota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-42390885836722942372009-05-14T17:23:00.003-04:002009-05-14T17:30:54.703-04:00Huntsman<img style="display:block; It is a typical mediaeval city with a big castle on top of a hill that oversees everything. I grew up speaking three different languages, since my father is Italian and my mother is French. Basically, you can say I grew up among those three cultures. Every summer we used to go to Italy to meet up with the family and every winter we used to go to Paris to see my grandma; during the year I went to school in Germany. At home, we would always switch between three languages. Needless to say, foreign cultures and travelling have always attracted me. I travelled to many different countries and learned a lot about their history and social customs. We made a lot of vacations to the United States and that might be the reason why I decided to move to America and start college here. I always loved the American culture for its entertainment. I am a big movie fan and appreciate the art of filmmaking. Art in general has always interested me: Film, Music, Magic, Concerts etc. After graduation, I plan to apply to law school and to become a lawyer. I guess I still kinda try to live after the American Dream where anything is possible. I am sure being in Sigma Chi will prepare me to be a strong member of our society and to be a better and stronger person.

2. Mike Gill [Pledge-class Vice-President]

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 225px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Bml1YtuXkl4/SfWwPPeEM4I/AAAAAAAAADA/d_O3GtReNCw/s320/n696140342_5616945_3093.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329359509960012674" /> I’m all about being easy going and having a good time, always down for whatever; I’m not afraid to meet new people and I am welcoming towards anyone that greets me. I listen to all kinds of music, but I prefer to listen to metal.

My Favorite Films include the following:
Reservior Dogs, Pulp Fiction, The Princess Bride, Robinhood: Men In Tights, Goodfellas, The Godfather, The Goonies, Billy Madison, Wayne's World, Monty Python and The Holy Grail, American History X, One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest, Sin City, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Forest Gump, Blow, The Departed, The Shining,

I hope my gregarious and welcoming personality will advance the interests of Sigma Chi.

3. Ervin Cani [Pledge-class Secretary]

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Bml1YtuXkl4/SfWxRk4uCpI/AAAAAAAAADI/_djPjKmlCQ8/s320/n1339440183_30154065_3923.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329360649580317330" /> I’m a freshman at FDU. I am currently studying as a business management major with hopes to minor in film. I like to be a part of many different events. I play many different sports including soccer, tennis, baseball, and many others. I like to act and have been a part of many theater productions. My dream is to one day be a film director and possibly own my own film company. I also love to act in film productions so that is also an interest for me. I joined Sigma Chi because I thought this was something that would be very meaningful in college. I’m not one of those guys who usually walks up to someone to start a conversation so I think this will also make me much more social. I also think it’s a nice idea to have friends for life as opposed to just people you hang out with at school and never speak to again after. In general, I’m a really fun guy and I love to make people laugh.Iota Kappa Chapter — Sigma Chihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03309721938905934310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7977622922354636210.post-15776770519495897652009-04-26T22:56:00.002-04:002009-04-26T23:00:47.442-04:00Greek Week: An UpdateOur valiant efforts to win Greek Week proved to be successful.
